This project, developed jointly by the two companies, will strengthen the security and availability standards of the most critical communications supporting strategic airport infrastructure.
Madrid, 9 July, 2026 – Telefónica Spain and Amper have been selected to modernize the DMR and TETRA radio communications networks at ten Spanish airports operated by Aena.
The modernization of these radio communications networks—highly reliable, fault-tolerant communication systems—will enhance the resilience and availability of the solutions that support coordination among the various airport services, helping to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations in highly demanding operational environments.
Specifically, the project includes the modernization of the existing infrastructure through the implementation of advanced authentication and encryption mechanisms across both the network and user terminals. These enhancements will strengthen the security, integrity, and protection standards of critical communications within the airport environment, ensuring greater reliability of operational coordination systems.
The airports included in the project over the next 36 months are Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat, Málaga–Costa del Sol, Palma de Mallorca, A Coruña, Girona–Costa Brava, Tenerife South, Fuerteventura, Seve Ballesteros–Santander, La Palma, and Valencia, all of which are classified as critical infrastructure within Aena’s airport network.
With this contract award, Amper and Telefónica further strengthen their collaboration and enhance their ability to deliver technologically complex projects in environments requiring the highest levels of availability, security, and service continuity.
DMR (Digital Mobile Radio), widely deployed across corporate, industrial, and enterprise environments, is a digital radio system that enables individuals and teams to communicate clearly and efficiently through voice and data services.
TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio), meanwhile, is the standard for mission-critical digital radio communications, designed to provide secure, reliable, and highly available communications where advanced functionalities and maximum operational availability are essential.
